Now here’s a a fine specimen of what the young people these days call a “mashup”.

Take two sources that have nothing to do with each other and mix them in a video blender and out comes something new.

That’s how I would explain it. For a better definition you should look up the word in ye olde wikipedia in your local public library (if you still have one). Or “google it”, whatever that means. All this internet mumbo-jumbo is making my head dizzy. It also could be the fumes from the cans of paint in the garage I’m sitting in as I can’t afford a decent office. The life of a freelancer, what a joy! Thank you, world economy, for making my life even more miserable than I could possibly imagine.

But I digress.

This video features well known Star Wars characters doing crazy things that you would normally see on the MTV show Jackass (also available on DVD, you know.) That’s why it’s called Jedi Jackass and it works suprisingly well. I can imagine that this is what the people in the Star Wars universe are up to when there’s nothing to watch on holonet, or all the womp rats have been shot but there’s still time to waste.

Can these reviews from well-renowned papers lie?

“A new low”
-Bespin Star

“A plunge into depravity”
-Mos Eisley News

No, they can’t. So you know it’s good. Because it’s bad. And this Star Wars/Jackass mashup is tantalisingly awesome. Really.

In internet terms this is, in fact, a very old hat. Or old cheese. Runny, old cheese.

Well, so much for our journalistic integrity on reporting just the facts. Of course we have to post this. It’s (yet another) Star Wars related video. And this is what this site, the safe haven for embedded Star Wars nerdism, is all about.

So without further ado, please do applaud these true heroes of our time for their bravery in, er, science. Or something like that. There’s a Tesla coil, so it must be something to do with science. Possibly.

If anyone remembers the <del datetime="2009-03-13T15:48:24+00:00">musical</del> movie Return of the Jedi Special Edition with the horrible muppet band playing in Jabba’s palace… well.

What can I say?

I feel your pain.

It was horrible and over the top.

But I am not here to rant incoherently about a movie that is partly to blame for me being a <del datetime="2009-03-13T15:48:24+00:00">crazy</del> bitter old man.

Oh noes! Oh noes indeed!

I am here to show you something that should have been in the movie instead of the muppets musical number. A little boy. A little boy playing the harp. And he is playing the Cantina song from Star Wars.

His rendition is so beautiful that it would have melted Han Solo from his carbonite block.

Aren’t you a little short for a harp player?

Of course, that’s nothing new. Bothans dying that is. They are probably the worst spies in the known universe.

In any case, what you probably haven’t seen yet is lovely little LEGO people building the LEGO Millennium Falcon in stop motion animation. This is awesome and pisses on Lucas’ later work.

Nevermind that this video is not historically accurate. We all know that Han Solo won the Falcon from Lando Calrissian in a game of cards. Still good though.

Yeah. So there we are, back to Star Wars. It only took a couple of days.

This is, by far, one of the bestest Star Wars picture mash-ups ever. EVER!!!!

Of course, as any art loving Star Wars geek will be able to tell you, this is a parody [or shall we say hommage (or dare we even say pastiche?)] of Salvador Dali’s The Temptation of St Anthony. Google it. Otherwise you might not get the full awesomeness of the hommage. Or maybe you do, WTF do I know.

If you’re click-lazy like me you’ll probably appreciate a link to it, including some sort of interpretation which you can find for example here.

Now. The following, absolutely mind-blowing, uber-awesome, re-imagining of the classic Dali artwork in Star Wars style, plus a cool bonus image, can be seen after the jump.

This image was composed by malvino of the b3ta community in this thread. Go there for a full-size view.

And here’s the bonus image. The Empire’s rebranding as a friendlier, happier dictatorship continues:

This image was composed by Tribs of the b3ta community in this thread. Go there for a full-size view.

Awesome does not even begin to describe these masterpieces. Or maybe I am just very easily impressed with anything to do with Star Wars.

A couple of months ago, when I was bored, I imagined what it would be like if the two universes of Star Wars and CSI: Miami would merge.

You know, by means of evil Sith magic or because Mala Noche are expanding their territory into space.

Stuff happens in my head when I’m bored. So the concept is a bit like Marvel Comics vs. DC, or Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, or my constant fight against sanity.

So I came up with this quick mash-up picture showing Horatio Caine in his standard issue stormtrooper uniform. Plus his sunglasses, of course. Because of the blinding twin suns of Tatooine.

So yeah, this is what CSI: Tatooine would look like. Pretty much.

Our first priority is to find the crime scene:

Who knows if Fanboys, the movie about a bunch of Star Wars fans breaking into the Skywalker Ranch to watch Episode 1, is going to be a success or a miserable failure. I don’t know. I hope it won’t suck when it comes out (Feb 6th).

If I have to judge by this clip though, it’s a winner.

Not only am I one of the many, many Star Wars fans out there who detest the Ewoks, I also agree with anyone in this clip who wants the Ewok to burn. Set it on fire! Now! Go ahead!

The Ewoks were to the original Return of the Jedi what the stupid muppets musical interlude in Jabba’s Palace was for the Special Edition. The nail in the coffin. One of many nails, in fact. But I won’t get bitter here and rant about it. Instead, I will share this great clip with you. And it burns, burns, burns, the ring of fire, the ring of fire…

Blowing up planets and stuff with a moon-sized superweapon doesn’t exactly make you popular.

The general perception amongst senators is that its run inefficiently by a bunch of self-centered Sith Lords with no clear vision.

This is why the general management decided to hire some experts in efficiency and leadership to fix this situation – cue the <del datetime="2009-01-23T20:41:44+00:00">Swiss</del> Germans.

This secret video taken from an even more secret meeting about new ways in advertising (probably to avert the next PR disaster) shows just how ruthlessly efficient these Germans can be.

OK. I wouldn’t make a good Jedi. That whole patience thing just doesn’t fly with me. So I can understand that Anakin guy – from a certain point of view.

A Jedi needs patience.
Patience.
But for what?

As it turns out it’s not for fighting the Sith or solving interplanetary conflicts but for building awesome Star Wars papercraft. And I’m not talking about your 5-minute-quick-folding stuff. We’re talking Jedi Master level here.

I lack any sort of skill and motivation for this kind of task. Any task, really.

To elaborate, here is a drawing of an AT-AT from me. It took me about 4 hours to get all the fine details done. You can clearly see how much effort I put into this.

He is as clumsy as he is stupid:

And this is how the papercraft looks like that I will never be able to build.

Impressive, most impressive:

As you can see, there is a slight difference in skill here.
So if any of you feel like spending the rest of your lives folding paper, be my guest. And send me one, please!
