Blanka has a new job

Did you ever wonder what all those Street Fighter characters did after appearing in a popular in a video game franchise?
No? Well… here’s Blanka, who is not best known for being polite and mild-mannered, working as a meter maid. At least he takes his job seriously.

25 Years of Mario

My first Mario game was Super Mario World on the SNES. My last Mario game was New Super Mario Bros on the Wii. There were a lot of other games in-between, some on the Gameboy, N64, Gamecube, the DS and through the magic of computer wizardry even on my old PC. Not much has changed. Well, the graphics are nicer, and the sound is better – the basic gameplay though is still the same. I think that Princess Peach is still a bitch but at least she looks hot (ish) and Mario wanting to rescue her makes more sense now. I mean, there aren’t many good looking females in the Mushroom Kingdom. And would you really want to hook up with one of Toad’s friends?

Even after 25 years of Mario I still fail at the game. I can honestly say that I have never finished a single Mario game that I played. Ever. There was always that one level that I never finished. And there is nothing more frustrating than failing at the same level over and over again while your friends just breeze easily through the game, with their hands tied behind their back, blindfolded and playing with inverted controls.

Maybe it is time to finally admit to myself that I suck a platform games (and FPS, adventures, driving games, sports games, life in general) and that video-games just aren’t for me. I hold a grudge against Mario for being such a pixel-jerk. But the world seems to think he is alright. And who am I to judge? I am the Goddamn Batman!

His less capable brother Luigi is OK in my eyes, he’s always number two and I am sure that nobody in the Mushroom Kingdom takes him seriously and they laugh about him behind his back – and Luigi knows that. He reminds me a bit of Fredo in the Godfather. I can very well imagine that Luigi will one day have had enough of this shit and finally make a deal with Bowser and sell out Mario and lure him into a deadly ambush. And then Mushroom Kingdom, tell me: Where is your saviour now?

Sorry Mario but the princess is in another castle

Wow, this is pretty cool! Sad thing this brilliant piece of pavement art will be washed away when the apocalypse rain starts.

PC Engine Promo Video

When I was young, which is several decades ago, I felt the urgent need to import a games console. I had to import it because Nintendo, SEGA and other hardware manufacturers just didn’t see a market in the backwards country I was living in (and still am, my life is going nowhere). Of course, only weeks after I bought my first console they officially sold consoles everywhere. For half what I paid.

However, I went for a SEGA Megadrive (the Genesis in the US, for all the spambots visiting and feeling the need to break out of their master’s code and wanting to leave a relevant comment). So I got my imported and overpriced Megadrive and hooked it up to the TV only to find out that the TV signal wasn’t compatible and that I could only play the games in black and white. That was worth my saved money for sure. All this 16bit glory and I felt like I was living in the 50s.

As a result I started hating SEGA. It was all their bloody fault. Surely not mine. I only got the Megadrive because I couldn’t afford the console that I really wanted, the PC Engine (NEC Turbo Grafx 16 in the US). In my opinion, it was the better console with cooler games (R-Type, Splatterhouse, Alien Crush).

Little did I know that it really was an 8bit console with a 16bit architecture graphics chip. Meh, semantics. By watching the video below you probably wouldn’t say that either. Like you know. Or care.

oh hay guys! I’m Hell’s Messenger!

This is the cool new (ish) trailer for the new Riddick game The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. It looks quite right, don’t it?

I enjoyed the Riddick movies and the games. And although I am a poor man with only a Wii and missing a real men’s console like the 360 or PS3, I am sort of excited.

The short trailer just gives you a little tease of what players can expect.

Because I am so awesome I also give you this 4 minute video of the game’s intro. But, this being the Internet, you probably have seen both videos already. What a sad day this is for all of us. Never forget: Many Bothans died for bringing us this information.

Things that needed to be done: The Portal Gun has been built

Although this is just a copy it gives me hope. Hope, that one day someone out there will actually build a real Portal Gun. And give it to me. Me alone. Step 1 in my plan to take over the world. Step 2: Deathstar (Isn’t it great how I manage to sneak in a star wars reference into almost every post?).

Details are as follows (let’s get technical, shall we?):

It lights up both blue and orange along the tube, in the barrel, and in the “indicator light” on top. The light switch is a two-way toggle in the back by the handle. It’s 22″ long including the prongs and weighs about 15 lbs.

Where the Hell is Matt? – Team Fortress 2 Style

Now, wether or not all those Where the Hell is Matt? videos are a big fake or not, it is still a pretty neat idea to go dancing around the world. Even if the world may or may not be nothing but a bluescreen trick played on the whole internet. But I digress.

This cool video is basically the same. Just with those guys from Team Fortress II dancing around in other online environments (like Second Life, WoW and other stuff). Very entertaining!

Friday Classic: El grande espectaculo de PAC-MAN

Every Friday we’ll be posting some classic stuff from our great German sister site with no readers. Because a) it’s Friday and b) we’re lazy and c) we don’t have any readers on this site either. So who cares?

This is a commercial for some game stuff, Gametap. No clue whatsoever what that is and I’m not going to google it either. You could though – and tell me off in the comments for not knowing. You know, because we value your opinion and we would love to know what you think of our site and/or products! REALLY!1!!

The commercial shows the eternal struggle of Señor Pac-Man and his fight against those pesky little ghosts Blinky, Inky, Pinky and Clyde. In Mexican puppet theatre style. Nice!

For me, Pac-Man was one the only highlights of my holiday in Spain (muy encantado) with my parents when I was little. I was about 8 or something and instead of going down to the beach (like all the normal kids in my age) I decided that my time and my parents money was much better spent in the arcade.

Wocka Wocka:

The Year In Video Game Violence

IGN reviews the year 2008 in the most important category in video gaming, ever: Violence!

Some of it is a bit of a stretch really but I don’t care. Much. At all.

And I didn’t find Moira to be irritating but she seems to inspire hate in a lot of people though. Because there is nothing else we really should be worrying about. Like why there’s no decent games on the Wii.

The video is unembedable so go to IGN to watch it: http://uk.ps3.ign.com/dor/articles/941874/the-year-in-violence-2008/videos/YearInViolence_121908.html
